John McCain - Republican

Analysis:

Based on the completely non-scientific data, it is clear that the candidates for the President of the United States of America shall be ranked in the following order when it comes time to add up the votes they receive.

1st - Barack Obama
2nd - John McCain
3rd - Bob Barr
4th - Chuck Baldwin

Barack Obama has to a certain extent taken the United States by storm. He is still technically in a race with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, but it looks like all but certain that he will be the candidate.

He is all over the television, speaking about hope and changes that need to be made. No matter what your specific political beliefs, it is hard to argue that he is not a great orator. He inspires a massive amount of people who cheer him on and wave those blue and white “Obama ‘08 - Change We Can Believe In” signs.

You can continue to view Barack Obama’s message of change at his website (BarackObama.com), that is once you click past all the donation solicitation screens. So, with millions of dollars in campaign donations to rely on and some of the brightest minds in the political business advising him, it probably goes without saying that they thought ahead and registered the domain name “ChangeWeCanBelieveIn.com”, right?Wrong.

If you go to that website (warning: some material may be offensive) you’ll find that it is hosting an anti-abortion site and features a very large and negative look at Barack Obama. Further research shows that the domain name wasn’t registered until November of 2007… just last year, roughly six months ago.

It is safe to say, that had the Obama campaign had someone familiar with the domaining market on board that this site would look much different.

Let’s look at some domain names that are currently posted for sale on Ebay. Ebay has historically been a hit or miss place to go for domain names, in fact some people will tell you they love selling there while others will tell you it is a great place to pick up some bargains. If you do try buying domain names there be prepared to occasionally come across an auction where the owner does not in fact own the name they are attempting to sell… standard Ebay fraudulent seller move.

Anyway, here are some domains currently up for auction on Ebay.

LemonWizard(dot)com
Right now: 1 bidder at $9.95

Being marketed by seller as a domain geared towards what to do if you purchase a bad car (lemon). Not a bad name really if that is the intent of the site you’d like to develop. As far as organic traffic, I can’t see that it would be getting any - but the name does sound catchy. The market would be hard to compete in with sites like CarFax and more, but a niche site with some PPC ads might not do too bad.

Homeruns(dot)mobi
Right now: 3 bidders at $12.95

Obviously intended as a baseball site for mobile phones, the value depends heavily on your feelings of the future of the .mobi extension. Again, if the idea behind the site is to use it for updates and scores, there is plenty of competition out there from companies with deep pockets.

BZCJ(dot)com
Right now: 9 bidders at $32

Four letter .coms (LLLL.com) domains have been heating up recently since al the available ones were puchased not too long ago, and this is a prime example of a LLLL.com with two less than desirable letters (Z & J). Not sure if those letters detract too much from the value as the letters do flow well… BZCJ. Probably could be getting more (although there is still time left) at a different venue, but it may take longer to sell too.

Zitey(dot)com
Right now: 2 bidders at $2.80

This is the perfect example of a potential steal you can get at Ebay. Though this isn’t a huge dollar name, it does have some search results on Google, and is a pronounceable and memorable 5-letter .com domain (you know how we like those). It has almost a year left on its registration period too. If you could seriously pick this up for less than five bucks, you’d have to think that was a good deal.

SuperBowlTeams(dot)com
Right now: 1 bidder at $22

The pluses of this domain: It’s memorable and contains keywords that are desired in the sports niche. Though it doesn’t look like it ever had much development, the domain is five years old and as we all know domain name age can play a big part in the area of domain valuation and search engine optimization. The negative would have to be that it is a potential TM violation, whether it would ever be pursued or not… we can’t say.

PatriotsPerfectRecord(dot)com
Right now: 1 bidder at $100

This is the perfect example of the type of name to sell on Ebay. Number one, it has a huge strike against it (TM Violation), but number two it appeals to something in the news and being hyped right now (the Patriots going undefeated in football). It appeals to fans of this team and can create the kind of bidding that you may not get six months from now when people are thinking a little more clearly. There are probably thousands of domain names available on Ebay right now that have no bids and are worth more than this name… but this one is being marketed for sale better. Kudos to the seller.

Let’s end today’s Ebay Domain Sales Analysis on another bargain. This is a great niche tech/computer sales name. With over 600,000 results in Google, you know its a popular phrase in the computer industry as well. The site built on this name could either rely on selling new hard drives or could give info on installing new hard drives… possibly even just rating new hard drives. Great possibilities and right now it is only a buck.
