Did a look to see what was available and unregistered that had a United States city with a 100,000+ population paired with the phrase “for sale”.

Example: SeattleForSale.com was long gone (registered in 1999, it looks like)

Out of all the cities in the United States with populations of 100,000 or more… there are only 5 domains left:

BoiseCityForSale.com (Idaho) (Most often referred to as just “Boise”, but officially “Boise City”)
CentennialForSale.com (Colorado)
EastLAForSale.com (EastLosAngelesForSale.com is also available… but long) (California)
SpringValleyForSale.com (Nevada)

There are three State Capitals left:

That’s it… that’s all that is left for US Cities with populations over 100,000 with the words “for sale” at the end. Setting up a general classified system and promoting it may not be a bad idea… it doesn’t matter that you don’t live there.

With the United States election cycle coming up there are a number of uses for a name like this. Use the TV extension and put together a site featuring political debate videos or quotes. Use the .us extension and focus on all the candidates going for the nomination.

While it is questionable if this is actually a word… it does have quite a few uses. Make a site pertaining to slot machines. It would also work for a site that ranks businesses or services (”right now we are slotting AT&T slightly ahead of Verizon” for example).

Charted.us/biz
Use either extension as a great place for selling nautical maps or ship related items. The .us would of course work better for United States related maps.

Works both for the cell phone industry (”give us a jingle”) as well as the Christmas season (”jingle bells”).

From a post earlier today, lets take a look at an available (at time of posting) geographic fitness related domain name.  Fitness sites are big right now - whether you’re promoting a workout regimen, a certain gym, or a diet program - much money can be made on fitness domains and sites.

As stated in the earlier research, there are no state name .com domains left that end with fitness (example: newyorkfitness.com is taken, as are all other states).  There are quite a few still available with the hyphen and NewYork-Fitness.com is one of those.

There are many uses for this site, but two of the prime ones that comes to mind are a directory and a fitness blog.  The directory can be filled with tons of New York related fitness sites, both online and off.  People are always looking for the next hot gym to join, workout program to start, or diet to try - provide a list of options with your own New York Fitness Directory.  Another option is a fitness blog where most of your posts and all of your advertisement relate to New York.  Get local sponsors to pay to be blogged about or buy advertising space and you are on your way.

Admittedly, a .biz domain isn’t as attractive as other extensions… but, if you were a woodworking/cabinet maker, this could work very well for you. Even as a furniture sales site.

Here the .BIZ extension works well with the intended use. Many sites tell you what you need to do to make your business a success. With Ruined.Biz you can go after the same niche but do it with a twist. Teach people what not to do when running their businesses. You can learn just as much from a bad example as you can from a good one… highlight poor business moves, practices, and decisions… “don’t let this happen to your business”.

There are still quality unregister domains out there, sometimes you just have to match them up to the right idea.

I’m thinking this would make a nice name for a proxy site or a site dedicated to disguising someone’s IP Address. IPLie… Lie about your IP address.

Just a thought, there seems to be a large market in trying to get around different security systems online and this name could apply itself to that market.

Two great uses for these domains. One, make it a site devoted to the trials and tribulations of being a substitute teacher. Substitute teachers go through a whole lot more than permanent teachers do. You could list possible items to substitute into recipes in exchange for the food item that could/should not be eaten. Maybe even a database of recipes with the substitutions already made like a diabetic recipe site for instance.

Actey.com has the possibility of being a nice memorable site devoted somehow to the acting profession.  Whether making it a database of headshots and acting resumes, or an online acting school or blog about acting tips and opportunities - it definitely has possibilities.

Though it is short and memorable and has the word “act” in it, the drawback would be that it ends with “ey” and some traffic may be lost to “acty.com”.  I personally don’t think that it would be a huge detriment.
